Press Release - Wildlife Center of Virginia

Wildlife Center of Virginia Partners with Sitevision, Inc.
to Develop Project Tripwire, a National Bioterrorism Surveillance Network

Following the devastating attacks of September 11, the Department of Defense initiated several programs to enhance national defense.  A critical component of these efforts was to develop new tools and strategies to combat Bioterrorism.  Five of the six disease pathogens identified by the U.S. government as potential bioweapons are pathogenic to wildlife.  Among these pathogens are anthrax, plague, Ebola, botulism and other potentially devastating diseases which can be spread to humans by intention or accident. Sitevision has been chosen to help implement a national, internet based, dynamic web application for rapid detection and response.

Specifically, Project Tripwire, is funded by the Institute of Defense and Homeland Security (IDHS), a subsidiary of the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology, and sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory of the United States Air Force. It is designed to create a working model that networks professionally staffed wildlife care clinics across North America to a central epidemiological database via the Internet as a response to both natural and Ahostile@ pathogens.

Sitevision, Inc. was chosen to develop this important application for its extensive experience in back-end dynamic internet applications and for its proven record in  Geographic Information Systems deployment.  Included in the working model is the ability to record and track infected animals to a central epidemiological database via the internet whereby unusual wildlife disease events can be quickly detected, analyzed and reported.

In addition to the critically important role it can play in Bioterrorism surveillance, Project Tripwire, as implemented by Sitevision, Inc., provides a complete patient tracking system, including full analytical functions and mapping capabilities.  In the event of a natural or other emergency, such as in the case of oil spills, Project Tripwire enables participants to graph, map and analyze all aspects of their local, regional or national requirements.  Individual centers can routinely graph, map and analyze their current and past patient load to predict future needs.  The network will also provide a conduit for the dissemination of rapid deployment information about emerging diseases and other human health and safety issues.

SiteVision, Inc. is a national provider of  internet application development, consulting and hosting services to clients in highly diverse markets and industries.
